wildideabuffalo_300pxWILD IDEA BUFFALO CO.

Wild Idea was started in 1997 in an effort to restore the health and biodiversity of South Dakota’s Great Plains through the use of their original stewards: bison. Their bison are allowed to roam wild and eat nothing but prairie grasses, living the lives nature intended for them and restoring the health of the prairie through responsible management.

Tom and Ruth Neuberger have been raising free-range chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys in eastern South Dakota for almost 40 years. They are beloved regulars on the Sioux Falls farmer’s market scene, and for good reason! They are proud of the quality of their birds–so much so that they will not sell them to us in winter, since chickens cannot truly be free-range during South Dakota’s toughest time of the year! Be on the look-out for their turkeys in our freezer during Thanksgiving and Christmas, and their chicken products anytime we can arrange a delivery in the warmer months.

Evergreen Ranching raises heritage-breed Criollo cattle (the ancestor of breeds such as the Texas Longhorn) and bison on conservation properties that are managed with wildlife preservation as their goal. Like all of our local beef, their animals are never given antibiotics or hormones and are 100% grass-fed for their entire lives.

33 Ranch raises certified organic, 100% grassfed beef on native grassland near Belvidere, SD. They are the first ranch in the country to be certified Bird Friendly by the National Audubon Society, meaning that their 20,000 acres are managed in a way that sustains and protects the grassland ecosystem and the birds that live there.
