I grew up on a natural healing center near Hermosa in the Black Hills. In 2010 I volunteered at Breadroot and later became one of the few paid workers. I was assistant manager when I left Breadroot to be a farm intern at Battle Creek Gardens. I later worked at Community Action Partnership as the Food Independence Coordinator managing a $300,000 grant. With some of the money, I started a community garden at the office with a hoop house, bought food at farmers markets and distributed tons of fresh produce to low income families in the community. Since 2012, I have farmed in Italy, France, Chile, Costa Rica, and coast to coast in the USA. I was an Americorps member with SDSU where I started community gardens in Rapid City and gave classes at the Oyate Center. Last July I moved home and worked at Tobias Garden. I am a carpenter now and hope to eventually have my own land to farm on.
